Produce from our Garden

Today we picked the first brocolli and cabbage from the garden. The cabbage is a mini one so will do us for one meal nicely.
We also had the second meal from the silverbeet tonight.

New photos

The gardens are going really well.
We have had our first harvest of radishes and our first strawberry so far.
We have taken the protective netting off the second garden today and hope that the plants are big enough that the cats won't get into the garden. I got some whirly garedn ornaments to hopefully help and we added some cds to the top of the garden to deter the butterflies and birsds (we hope).
Here are the photos today. You will notice the addition of the lettuce garden now - that went in a week ago and they are growing really well also.
So here is the big garden first

Next garden

Roses & freeshias

My first freesias are out so I have picked them and added them to this vase of roses.

Also I have attached a photo of my rose plant.

The hanging Tomato

Well here is what it looks like now. It has been hanging for about a month now and is going well. Except the plant keeps trying to grow towards the sun so it has curled itself up and around which is king of funny. But there are several flowers on it now and it is looking really good.

The Other new Vege Gardens

So we have made some extra vege gardens with some plastic barrels Dave has got. He has made frames for them to sit in so they don't roll around. I also had a long planter which we are using and Dave cleared one of the flower/rock gardens at the end of the drive which was a mess and we have planted veges in that too.

So here they are:
The second garden at the end of the drive. it has cauliflower, leeks, sage, spring onions, chilli, cabbage, lettuce, brocolli, and marigolds in it. The cover keeps the cats and white butterfly out.

The long planter we have planted strawberries in and just put some hay under them to keep the fruit dry. the netting is to keep out the birds - we want the strawberries - not them!

One barrel we have planted potatoes in and they are showing up now.

The last barrel has tomatoes in. Some are ones that have come up in the big garden through the compost (self-sown) and some I grew from seeds and they are cherry tomatoes so we will see how they all grow.

We also have a blueberry plant new last year and it looks hopeful for this year.

The vege garden

The vege garden is going really well. So well that we have made extra gardens around the place to grow more veges this year.
So here is what the big garden looks like today.
The first photo is the whole garden and then closer up of each corner.
I have tomatoes, radish, carrots, beans, cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower, capsicum, cucumber, spring onions, basil, sage, lavender, marigolds and lupin in there at the moment.
The cd's hanging are to keep the birds out and hopefully the white butterfly.

My roses

Ok, so the tulips have now finished and my roses have come out. I have one rose bush and it has just burst out with all these beautiful roses. And their scent is amazing - I wish I could post their smell on here as well. This is the second vase full I have picked and there are still about 15 or so buds to come out yet.
My freishas are just about to come out as well (they are in the pot with the tulips so that was well planted, once one lot finishes the next are about to bloom).

Hanging tomato

I am trying a hanging tomato this year to see how it goes. It is a cherry tomato so the fruit won't be heavy. I have purchased a plant forom Palmer's Garden centre for $1.99 and using a hanging basket system I purchased from The Warehouse for $9.99.
I have planted the tomato plant up the "regular" way at present to let it settle in its new home and for the roots to get strong to hold it when I tip it upside down and hang it up.
We will see how it goes.
This is a photo of it just planted.

Just starting our vege garden for this season and have started growing some plants from seeds.

The Garden

The garden is all ready for planting my seedlings and plants.
All that is in there at present is lupin which we planted over winter and will leave in the garden at present.
The netting around the garden keeps the cats out!

Our beautiful day

It has been such a lovely spring day here today - the beach was amazing.

More photos

I just went to put the washing out and found the tulip wide open so had to take a couple of photos of it. I am so pleased with it - it is the first tulip I have ever grown.
